Can Jumbo Joy defeat Miss Republic and Delmur Gold, or will Coconut boy’s return be spoilt by la Bayamosa?
Those and other questions will be answered today when the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club stages it Grand Annual Pre Easter eight-event Horserace meet at the clubs’ facility at Alness village on the Corentyne Coast starting at 13:30hrs.
Over 2 million dollars in prizes and trophies are up for grabs. Banks DIH and Rhythm Stars International sounds are major players in the day’s activity. Over 70 of the countries top horses have taken entry and with such numbers expected to take to the starting gates, the meet is expected to be the biggest so far this year.
Three feature events will adorn the days programme, featuring horses classified B and Lower, the three year old open race and the event for horses classified D and E and lower.
The feature B class event, which is being sponsored by Banks DIH limited with a first prize of $250,000 over 1200M for the Dr Dwight Waldron trophy, will see the sensational Jumbo Joy fresh from a victory in its last outing, looking to continue winning ways, but with the likes of Miss Republic and Delmur Gold of the Delmur Shipping Company stable being entered in this event and expected to match strides for the first time, the winner will be any one’s guess.
There are also four American –bred horses in the line up in Annie’s Playmate, Sweet Carmel, Sweet Southern Charm and Finally Jade along with the Gap and Sir Balajee, thus making this event mouth watering.

The Ryan Crawford Memorial Trophy and $200,000 is at stake for the winner in the D and E and Lower Class event, with the distance being 1400m.
From previous encounters all of the animals have taken a liking for this distance and with an impressive line up that includes Miss Republic, The Message, Jumbo Joy, World Class, Sir Balajee, Varadero, Face the Music, Laura Lee in Flight and The Gap, this event is expected to go down to the wire.
