Mother collapses during daughter’s funeral
The funeral services of Ula Brown, who died on Tuesday last.
Alva Hendricks, the mother of Ula Brown, who was electrocuted in Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, collapsed at her home yesterday during her daughter’s burial proceedings in Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that Hendricks did not attend the funeral, but collapsed in her home, sparking worry among the funeral goers that she may have died.
However, these fears were soon dispelled as news reached the funeral service, saying that Hendricks was alive and well.
Family members reported that Hendricks had been ill for the past few months.
Brown, a supervisor attached to the Secret Villa Hotel, Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, died on Tuesday in the vicinity of the hotel where she worked.
She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), after she was rushed to the institution under the suspicion that she might have been electrocuted.
Persons living in the vicinity of the hotel reported that a shop owner called out to Brown and told her that a wire was sparking near a window at the hotel.
It is believed that the woman went inside to investigate and came into contact with the live wires and was electrocuted.
The people who saw the body when it was it was being taken from the hotel said that it had burn marks on the hands and feet.
Sources told Kaieteur News that the same hotel is under investigation by the Guyana Power and Light for stealing electricity.
