Originally scheduled to commence on April 6 in Guyana, the West Indies 50-overs under-15 cricket competition has now been switched to Trinidad and will run from April 4-13.
Officials from the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) told Kaieteur Sports yesterday that the details are now being worked out for the Twin Island Republic’s hosting of the six-team competition since they were only told about the switch this week.
“The tournament should start on the 4th of next month and I believe the fixtures would remain the same as it was for Guyana. We are presently working on identifying the venues,” a senior TTCB official explained.
Guyana, hunting their first regional under-15 title since the competition was first played in 1996, was scheduled to open their campaign against Barbados and the Guyana squad was selected after three trials matches.
It has also been confirmed that embattled CLICO will fulfill their sponsorship commitment to the youngest age-group regional cricket tournament in the region.
“The Board has put some funds into the competition but the bulk of the funding and organizing will be done by the sponsors,” the TCCB official informed.
The competition, which involves defending champions Windward Islands, Leeward Islands, Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, was moved from the South American mainland on the request of the sponsors who are in the last year of their sponsorship agreement with the West Indies Cricket Board and CLICO’s Head office in the region is in Trinidad.
It is also understood that Essequibo Captain Ricardo Adams has been appointed Captain of the Guyana team with Demerara Skipper Shaquille Williams as his deputy. The full squad read.
Ricardo Adams, Shaquille Williams, Kevin Ramdeen, Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Sunil Rupee, Brian Sattaur, Christopher Surat, Dinesh Mangal, Vijay Surujpaul, Mark Tyrell, Kareem Naughton, Omesh Dhaniram, Veerapen Permaul, Elroy Stephney (Manager), Adrian Amsterdam (Coach).
