The Guyana junior selection panel of Michael ‘Hyles’ Franco, Faizul Bacchus and Sheik Mohamed named a 14-member Guyana squad to participate in the 2009 Regional Under-19 female Cricket Tournament in St. Lucia from April 4 – 12.
A 20-member training squad was selected after three trial matches in Georgetown to participate in a 10-day camp on the Essequibo Coast before the touring squad was named.
Although no Captain has been announced by the Guyana Cricket Board, it is believed that gifted 16-year-old Berbice wicket-keeper/batter Shemaine Campbell will get the job. Campbell was a member of the West Indies Training camp in Barbados when the regional team, which finished fifth in the recent World Cup in Australia, fine-tuned preparations for the World Cup which was won by England.
National female player 18-yea-old Marina Bridgemohan, who only participated in one trial match due to UG studies, has been predictably selected in the squad which will be managed by Marcelle Griffith and coached by Franco.
The full Guyana team read: Shemaine Campbell, Marina Bridgemohan, Oliva O’Selmo, Haseena Mohamed, Desmona Hill, Katana Mentore, Latoya Smith, Jessica Gonsalves, Jacqulyn Singh, Hema Singh, Anganie Lallbachan, Resha Khan, Timeca Kerr, Naisha Khan, Marcelle Griffith (Manager), Michael ‘Hyles’ Franco (Coach)
