Dear Editor,
I am a resident of Third Street in Section ‘A’ Block ‘X’ in Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
A little over six years ago I was allotted and purchased the plot of land on which I currently reside for $1.2 million, from my lifetime savings, and spent several more millions to provide my family with a relatively comfortable abode and by extension, standard of living.
The latter part of the aforementioned statement is necessary since up to the point of purchase, I and my family had lived in many rented properties and were far from relaxed in such circumstances, as many who have can attest.
Having said all of this, some things are out of my hands, and it is therefore pertinent that I highlight the great disgust I – and I am certain other residents – feel about the callous disregard that the authorities have displayed with respect to this and other access roads in this so-called multi-million-dollar community.
I normally traverse Third Street (opposite First Bridge) to get to my residence (I can use others but I find it an inconvenience to do so), but this road is fast becoming a jungle trail with unsightly red loam, massive craters and general unevenness. Added to this are the hundreds of cows that are normally herded through the street to get to a suitable pasture.
I am respectfully asking the NDC, RDC, CHPA, or whoever is responsible for repairing/restoring these roads, to relieve us of this unnecessary depression. Not all of us have Tundras, Tacomas, Titans, Prados, F-150s and Rav 4s to traverse this moon-like surface without any worry.
Probably the new Minister of Housing and Water can pay us a visit when he gets some spare time.
It is significant that the PPP’s 29th Congress at the spanking new Diamond Secondary School, last August, led to the access road adjacent to that facility (Second Street), being done almost to perfection, at that time, while the other roads were left to deteriorate. How selfish.
Well, seven months later, because the other roads were no good and that one was, everybody used the beautiful surface and yes, that is rejoining the ranks of the ridiculous.
What misery!
Disgusted resident
