Dear Editor,
Guyana is still yet to face the worst. It is time for the government to take stock of themselves.
Berbice is the one county that is facing extreme neglect. I do not want to hear about the Skeldon Sugar Factory and the Berbice River Bridge.
We were entitled to those anyway, but what about the private radio stations and more TV stations? Yes, we have National Communications Network (NCN), but the programmes leave much to be desired. I wonder if NCN G/T carries all these political programmes aired in Berbice, why does LRTVS Channel Ten rebroadcast the nationally aired ‘NCN’s Six O’ Clock News’ the following day?’ Didn’t the entire nation watch this news programme the night before?
Imagine, during the cricket, Berbice TV ads were being aired on NCN, and were frequently cutting the cricket show time. We the viewers did not even get to see the pitch report and toss spinning. The ads also took up much time during replays that were shown during the cricket.
The time has come for those concerned to use extreme measures to eradicate this cancer. Politically questionable characters are employed to do the dirty work and propaganda of the ruling party. I am calling on the G/T management of NCN to come and investigate the improper running of this Berbice TV station and expose the root of the problem.
The other part is that huge sums of money are allocated each year for roads, bridges, etc. How come, then, does the Regional Administration budget money to do the same works, the same jobs, the same roads and same streets? What is the quality of planks used to repair bridges? These are all done at the expense of the people of Guyana and Berbice.
Crime is rampant in Berbice and rarely any convictions are made. The court had backlogs of cases and I think the sitting of the High Court should be extended to more part-time judges.
There is too much postponement of cases. It is not fair for an accused to be running to court for ages. We are hearing about these backlogs of cases but what measures are being taken to rid the court of this chronic disease?
