Dear Editor,
It is with a great amount of concern that I pen this letter pertaining to the inevitable which can occur sooner or later, and which can cause several citizens of Linden as well as other areas of this country to mourn the loss of lives.
I am referring to the new means of ingress and egress for the fire tender that the Fire Department is building on the bend of the main public road, David Rose Avenue, which is rife with traffic.
This is setting up a situation for a disaster to happen. There is already access to the building through an established bridge across the Cockatara Creek.
There is the argument by the authorities that the siren of the fire tender will be sounded at all times since a fire is a case of emergency. The reality of the situation may, and can result in a sad one.
Of course, a number of agencies ought to have been involved in approving this project as well as checking what is currently happening.
Are traffic officials observing the pending danger? Is this not an area that should be observed where the safety of traffic is concerned? Was the Town Council involved in approving the plan for this building? What was the role of the Central Housing and Planning Authority in the particular area of access to and from the building?
An appeal is hereby made to have the relevant authorities review the situation before disaster strikes.
