GNIC’s Elton Baker hit his first ton on Trinidad soil and shared in a 103-run fourth wicket partnership with fellow Guyanese Travis Blyden who made 66 as Rousilac United put themselves in a strong position against Quarry at the end of the penultimate day of action on Sunday.
Quarry were 43-2 in their second innings, enjoying a slim 11-run lead heading into the final day on Saturday after conceding a 32-run first innings lead.
Quarry first and made 277 in 52 overs with Jason Jairam leading the way with 102.
Resuming from their first day position of 81-2 with Blyden on 24, Rousilac United declared at 309-9 with Baker playing an array of spanking shots in unbeaten 124 and Blyden contributing 66 to put their team in a strong position to force for an outright win on the final day this Saturday.
The Guyanese pair, both in their first stints in overseas cricket, have been very impressive this season in the limited overs competitions and their auspicious start to the three-day format has been welcomed by their club.
“We are enjoying the cricket here and everything is well organized. We look forward to returning home and getting into the Demerara and hopefully Guyana teams in the near future and we are learning so much over here,” Blyden, who plays for the Transport Sports Club in Guyana, told Kaieteur Sport via telephone Tuesday.
