After finishing fourth to Warren ‘Forty’ Mc Kay on March 1st in Berbice, the first of three races this month, to commemorate the life of the Late President Cheddi Jagan, junior cyclist Christopher Holder returned to winnings ways in the second race on Sunday last on the West Coast of Demerara.
The 50-miler, which started at the Wales Police Station on the West Bank, proceeding to Busy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo before returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish, saw Holder winning in a time of 1 hour 57 minutes 26 seconds ahead of fellow junior Daniel Ramchurjee who returned to competitive cycling for the first time this year.
Ian ‘Dumb Boy’ Jackson placed third followed by Tony Simon, Robin Persaud and Raymond Newton.
Holder also won the junior category ahead of Ramchurjee with Geron Williams third.
Like he did in Berbice, Kennard Lovell took the top spot in the veteran’s under-50 category.
Davendra Ramnarine and Shameer Baksh occupied the 2nd and 3rd positions. The over 60 winner was Walter Isaacs.
Also making it two out of two in this three part series was upright Dexter Wilson. Second best was Garfield Lorimer with Shawn Frank 3rd.
The third and final race is expected to take place on Sunday on the Essequibo Coast.
