The Executives, players and supporters of Pele Football Club has offered words of congratulations to Gregory ’Jackie Chan’ Richardson on his historic achievement of becoming the first Guyanese football player to sign a major professional contract when he signed with the Colorado Rapids of the MLS.
The local club of which Richardson has been a member from his youth in a statement issued said, “His achievement is of great pride to Pele FC in which he grew up as a player and to all Guyanese football fans. Despite the many challenges football players and the sport as a whole have endured locally, this historic achievement must have brightened the hopes, dreams and aspirations of many young players across our country today and points to better days for Guyana football in the future.”
Fondly called ‘Gregory’ or ‘Jackie Chan’, the bubbly and nippy forward has exhibited the skills and ability on the football pitch at every age group, mesmerizing defenders while amassing tallies of goals for every team he has represented in his bright and rewarding career.
From the various Pele FC teams to the various Guyana National Teams to the Semi Professional circuit in Barbados and most recently Trinidad and Tobago, Richardson has always performed outstandingly and deserves all the accolades accorded him.
“Only recently being determined to reward his local fans and formative club for their support through the years he returned home to assist and ensure Pele win the coveted Kashif & Shanghai Football tournament for the first time in the Club’s history. ‘Chan’ did not disappoint scoring 4 goals in three games and just missing a penalty in the finals which would have capped him highest goal scorer and possibly MVP of the tournament. He provided some scintillating performances much to the joy of the Pele FC supporters and local football fans.”
Pele FC and its supporters wish Gregory Richardson a highly successful season, best of health and wellness and a long and prosperous professional career.
The club’s recent victory in the annual Mayor’s Cup tournament where they defeated Alpha United was dedicated Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson for the inspiration he has given to the young players on the team during the recent K&S achievement and his recent magnanimous achievement.
