Bandits struck in the wee hours of Thursday morning, leaving a Vreed-en-Hoop businessman nursing some $1M in losses.
According to Jagdesh Ramkissoon, who operates an Internet café in the shopping mall at Plantain Walk, Vreed-en-Hoop, the bandits struck some time around 02:30 hrs, using cutting instruments to pry their way into the building.
It was said that some five men attacked the male security guard at the location, beat, then bound and gagged him.
The guard sustained injuries to the face and head as a result of the beating.
Sources said the rendezvous lasted for an hour, during which the bandits removed five computers and web cam valued approximately $1M from the Internet. According to reliable sources, the same bandits had attempted to break and enter the location some three weeks ago but were deterred when they triggered the security alarm on the building.
This time around, according to relatives of the businessman, the men cut the wire leading power to the security device, thus allowing them to gain undetected entry into the building.
The guard managed to loosen his bonds and run to nearby residents and raised an alarm.
The police at Vreed-en-Hoop are at present conducting extensive investigations.
