An unidentified man was shot in the head and dumped from a car on Sussex Street last night in what investigators are describing as an execution-style killing.
The man of African ancestry was pronounced dead less than an hour after he was taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Georgetown Hospital around 20:00 hours. He had a single gunshot wound behind the right ear.
The victim was reportedly still alive when he was discovered by residents of West La Penitence on the parapet in a deserted section of Sussex Street, near an area called Island Bridge, opposite the Le Repentir Cemetery.
Hospital sources described the man as short, very dark, slimly built with neatly cut hair.
He was barefooted and wearing a multi-coloured shirt and denim pants. He appeared to be in his late thirties.
Investigators are working on the theory that the man was shot in a car not far from where he was dumped.
They also believe that he was beaten before he was shot.
According to residents, a single gunshot was heard minutes before the discovery.
Detectives recovered a blood-stained cap and a piece of wood with what appeared to be blood.
Police are certain that the man is not from the area where his body was found, since none of the residents there claimed to recognize him.
Up to late last night no one had turned up at the hospital to identify the body.
