After receiving a sound thrashing at the hands of his mother on Saturday night last, 15-year-old Nkosei Williams, of 46 Agricola Public Road, East Bank Demerara, jumped through the window of his home and disappeared into the night.
“He doesn’t hear when you talk to him, and he always wants to do his own thing,” said the boy’s mother, Shaundel Williams. She explained that she beat him for not listening to her.
Shaundel Williams said that when her son took flight, she was not overtly worried or concerned, as he had run away from home three times previously. But over the past few days she has become worried, as “he had never stayed away from home for so long before.”
At present, Ms Williams said that she does not know where her son is, but she is convinced that he is still in the area, since people have reported to her that they have seen him.
One woman in Agricola apparently saw Nkosei at a shop. After talking to him, she decided to take him to her home and continued to talk to him. She also gave him food. The woman’s husband then decided to take the boy back to his mother.
However, as the man was walking Nkosei home, he reportedly looked away at something only to discover that the boy had vanished. That was on Monday night and the runaway boy sought refuge at the home of a sister who told him that he could not stay with her.
She reportedly advised him to seek refuge elsewhere. She also queried the reason for him not wanting to return home to which he replied that if he went back home his mother “would send him to Boys’ School”.
Ms Williams affirmed that she had threatened her son with Boys’ School, if he ran away from home again.
Anyone with any information concerning the whereabouts of Nkosei Williams is asked to contact the nearest police station.
