Competition in the Banks DIH sponsored Coca Cola under-15 round-robin tournament organised by the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) got underway on Sunday with a number of matches at the Camptown and Tucville grounds.
Georgetown Football Club (GFC) hammered Rhythm Squad 4-0, Uprising nailed Sunburst Camptown 3-1 while Fruta Conquerors won by a similar margin over Thomas United.
For GFC, Daren McPherson tucked in a double (21 & 30) with one each from Tevis James (52) and Dwayne Gordon (66).
Uprising’s goals were registered by Keson Dey in the 35th minute, Kimba Braithwaite in the 50th and Yannick Garraway in the 68th. Camptown’s lone goal was netted by
Ronel Andrews in the first minute of the match.
Thomas United also drew first blood in their encounter against Conquerors, Kevin Andrews putting his team ahead in the 35th minute but Conquerors fired back through efforts from Dwayne Lindie (55), Pernell Schultz five minutes later and Shaquille Brown in the 65th minute to gain full points.
Santos and Renaissance battled to a 2-2 tie. Jerome Liddell (15 & 25) scored both goals for Santos, Mark Roachel and Selwyn Williams responded for Renaissance five minutes apart, in the 65th and 70th minute. Beacon and Flamingo played to a nil all stalemate.
This tournament which is the final of six youth tournaments organised by the GFA for their 2008/2009 season is also being used to select the association’s team for the Guyana Football Federation inter association under-15 competition.
Coach Sampson Gilbert has been named coach of the GFA team and will be assisted by Rodwell Jemmot and Gordon Braithwaite. The team will be managed by Wayne Forde.
