Dear Editor,
I must commend GT&T for its recent position in meeting with some internet cafe owners and having a fruitful discussion where their doors continue to remain open to the public.
I was indeed a bit concerned at first, not knowing what will be the future of cafes, but I am less worried now. Everyone has their respective approach in dealing with issues and situations, but sometimes there is nothing to lose by taking a leaf out of someone else’s book and use the method.
This is where The Traffic Department needs to consider a similar approach in addressing the present tinting and design on minibuses’ issue and I don’t believe that the masses should be penalised for the actions of a few. Summon a meeting with representatives of tint and air brush shops along with committee members of the minibuses association and listen to what they have to say.
I am in total agreement that some buses have to now come clean or face serious consequences, but approval of designs and tinting by the traffic department before the final work is done on vehicles in question, might be a decent way for all parties to work together. I understand that in Trinidad, it is legal to have 35% tinting and with 50%, it is a figure that can be worked around with.
I am merely suggesting a meeting before the final decision is made or put in place.
T. Pemberton
