Rhythm Squad won their first game of the Milo under-21 league organised by the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) while there were wins for Santos, Fruta Conquerors, Uprising and Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
The largest margin of victory yesterday was Fruta Conquerors’ 7-0 whipping of Black Pearl, Rhythm and Santos were 1-0 winners over Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and University of Guyana respectively, while on Friday, Uprising took care of Alpha 3-1 while GDF swamped Beacon 6-0.
Black Pearl proved to be no match for the confident and goal hungry Conquerors line up playing at their home ground, Tucville. Eon
Alleyne (41 & 67) and Kacy John (32 & 61) each hit in a double. Orlando Lewis opened the floodgates after nine minutes while also adding their names to the score sheets were Lumumba Hinds (45) and Robert Daniels (57).
At the Camptown ground, Rhythm Squad finally recorded their first win after battling to draws in three their previous matches. The man with the golden boots for them was Orville Stewart who netted in the 40th minute.
GFC proved to be worthwhile opponents and created a fair amount of chances but lacked the extra punch up front against a tough Rhythm Squad that made one of their few chances count.
Santos too, made good on at least one chance which was all that was needed for them to take full points against the UG boys. Jamal Downer performed the honours of rocking the nets after only four minutes of play.
UG created a series of good opportunities but like GFC, did not get it right in the attacking third. On Friday evening, Alpha who drew first blood, lost to Uprising 1-3 at the GCC ground in a game that was the supporting clash to the Alpha senior team’s clash against the President’s X1 which the former lost 1-0.
Marco Marcus in the 30th minute, Cloyd Bascombe (40) and Eon Dooker in the 60th scored one each for Uprising while Alpha’s consolation came of the boot of Michael Stewart in the 6th.
And the Guyana Defence Force was certainly not in a defensive mood in their encounter against Beacon whom they blanked 6-0.
On target for the Army’s junior brigade were Rawle Thornhill with a brace (4 & 22), Olvis Mitchell (17), Celvon Martin (38), Dell Young (46) and Jason Bruce in the 55th.
