A 38-year-old taxi driver from Belfield was yesterday charged and remanded to prison on the indictable charge of attempting to commit murder.
It was alleged that Donald Webb on March 9 attempted to murder Lurex Bristol.
He was represented by Attorney-at-law James Bond who, in an unsuccessful bid to secure bail, told the court that the entire incident stemmed from Bristol throwing “Phagwah powder” on the defendant.
Bond further explained that Webb went inside a fast-food restaurant and proceeded to clean off his skin when Bristol followed Webb and threw more Phagwah powder on him. Bond said that it was surprising that Webb was charged for attempted murder, because the initial charge was supposed to be assault.
The lawyer sought to reassure the court that Bristol is alive and well, and that Bristol’s brother has approached Webb so that the matter can be settled out of court.
Bond further stated that Bristol was expected to be discharged from the hospital on Friday.
However, Police Prosecutor Denise Griffith objected to bail and told the court that Bristol is still hospitalised with serious head injures.
She said that after the powder was thrown Webb struck Bristol in his head with a piece of wood, causing Bristol to suffer massive head injuries.
Griffith said that, in relation to the matter being settled, the fittest person to decide that would be Bristol and not his brother.
She also noted that it was the defendant who approached Bristol’s brother with the proposal of settling the matter.
She said that, since Mr. Bond knows for a fact that Bristol would be discharged on Friday, the defendant should be remanded to prison until then, so that Bristol could say if he wants to discontinue the matter.
