Abigail McDonald won all 6 of her games and amassed a huge positive spread of 860 to inscribe her name on the Adult Education Lien Trophy when that tournament concluded at the Chamber of Commerce Building, Waterloo Street, Georgetown on Tuesday.
Colin Chichester won 5 games with a positive spread of 298 to occupy the second place slot while Orlando Michael finished in the third place position after winning 4 of his six games. He also amassed a positive spread of 612.
McDonald looked ominous from the onset when she disposed of Paul Adams by a massive spread of 352. She then brushed aside Michael before giving Chichester (77) a spelling lesson to finish the post lunch session with 3 points and a positive spread of 536.
Chichester and Michael were also looking good, finishing the post lunch session with 2 games apiece and positive spreads of 122 and 151, respectively.
Four other players also ended the post lunch sessions looking good. They were Michael Benjamin, Ulric Harris, Ruby Cummings and Colin Chichester all ending that session on two games each and positive spreads of 51, 113,196 and 122, respectively. Paul Adams also chalked up 2 games in the morning sessions but finished with a negative spread of 151.
Chichester made amends for his morning lapse, chalking up wins against Ulric Harris (127), Michael (10) and Adams (50), while McDonald continued her winning ways against Ruby Cummings (110), James Krakowsky (153) and Ulric Harris (71). Despite his first round loss to McDonald, Adams rebounded to finish the tournament on 4 points but was relegated to the 4th place by dint of a lower spread of 22. Never-the-less, he was commended for his sterling efforts especially since he is a relatively new player in the sport.
Meanwhile, GASP has been forced to postpone the intermediate tournament initially scheduled for March 20. They have cited the one day match between the West Indies and England to be played at the National Stadium on that very day. An announcement will be made later pertaining to the new date.
