As preparations move apace for the Bartica Regatta 2009, the committee continues to receive support from major entities. On Monday, Scotiabank’s Bartica Branch made a sizable donation to Regional Chairman Holbert Knights. The cheque was presented by the Bank’s Branch Manager Quacy Williams.
Meanwhile the committee has released their calendar of activities leading up to the Easter Sunday and Easter Monday celebrations. As planning is underway for the Miss Regatta 2009 Pageant, the contestants are busy with training both in Georgetown and in Bartica. On March 28, there will be a sashing ceremony and Designers’ Auction for the contestants. That event will be staged at Kool Breeze, First Avenue, Bartica.
In addition the clothing that was designed for the ‘This is Bartica; Designer’s Quest’ programme will be displayed by the contestants and immediately auctioned. There will also be the Regatta football tournament which is slated for April 6 to 11 at the Bartica Community Centre ground.
That event will see seven teams participating and all matches will start at 4:00 pm, with two matches on each scheduled day.
On April 8 at Kool Breeze there will be a grand welcome party for visitors to Bartica. This will be followed by a Street Jam on April 11 at Platinum Square, First Avenue. The main events which will include boat races and jet ski events is slated for Sunday April 12 and Monday April 13 at the Golden Beach, Third Avenue, Bartica.
Because of the number of boats participating, including jet skis, and the vast variation in engine sizes, it is now necessary to extend the racing to two days. A total of eighteen (18) events are billed for the 2009 regatta.
