Clive Andries is highest goal scorer and MVP
Buxton United Football Club (BUFC) received their first place cheque of $100,000 which forms part of the winners’ prize.
The club will also receive one set of uniform just reward for capturing the 2008 Mackeson / East Demerara Football Association senior league.
BUFC’s achievement came in their debut season at the highest level inking their names in the history books as the youngest club (average age of 20) to ever win the EDFA senior league.
In handing over the prizes, Ansa Mc Al Trading Marketing Manager Troy Cadogan encouraged the champions to set higher standards and do not become comfortable with their first championship.
“I congratulate you and am impressed that such a young team overpowered all the senior and more seasoned clubs on the East Coast. Continue to aim high and be the best you can be.”
Former powerhouses Victoria Kings took the second place cheque of $75,000, Bakewell Buxton Stars placed third and pocketed $50,000, while Mahaica Determinators copped the fourth place prize of $25,000.
BUFC striker Clive Andries, a former under-19 national cricketer, ended as the tournament’s highest goal scorer, banging the nets on six (6) occasions. Andries was also named the competition’s MVP.
