Dear Editor,
Let us put an end to this charade as to who is the Father, step, putative or, foster father of the Nation.
This week we celebrate a public holiday for Muslims and one for Hindus.
Those who chatter about fatherhood, ask them, which of our Leaders, in defiance of our long colonial history and two periods of PPP administration, took to Parliament, the bold step to make these and other Hindu and Muslim holy days, public holidays. It was not Dr. Cheddi Jagan.
Whose brain-child created CARIFESTA in 1972? – NOT “Father” Jagan.
Who shored up CARICOM before Independence when many were reluctant – NOT Dr. Jagan.
Who, even though the PPP in Parliament had opposed it, had passed an annual sum of money to help our brothers in Southern Africa in their struggle against apartheid and imperial terrorism?
Let us get specific answers from those who wish to foist this ill conceived idea of father, in our history, and fool our young and the ill informed.
Hamilton Green, J.P.
