Bowlers dominated a low-scoring first national 50-overs under-19 female cricket trial match yesterday at the DCC ground as the Guyanese lasses prepare for the West Indies under-19 female cricket series next month in St Lucia.
Skipper and national senior player Shamaine Campbell, who easily looked the most accomplished of the batters, top scored with 13 before she misjudged a swinging full toss from Hema Singh and was trapped leg before.
Seventeen-year-old Enterprise right-hander Nayesha Khan, who retuned to bat after retiring hurt due to stomach cramps, was the only other batter to reach double figures for Campbell’s XI as 16-year-old Berbice pacer Trishanie Cort took 4-24.
Eighteen-year-old Jacqueline Singh supported with 3-3 while Hema Singh and Oliva O’Selmo captured two wickets each.
Campbell’s X1 were bowled out for 66 in 24.5 overs on a flat track before Lallbachand’s X1 passed the winning total before being bowled out for 115 in 41.4 overs.
Fourteen-year-old Enmore Primary School right-hander Haseena Mohamed stroked three fours in her 65-ball 34 before she was leg before to Letita Myles when Anjanee Lallbachand’s X1 replied.
Mohamed and Jacqueline Singh (8) added 31 for the first wicket before Singh was run out while pacer Latoya Smith removed Resha Khan (2) and Hema Singh (0) as Lallbacnand’s X1 slipped to 34-3.
Mohamed and her Skipper, who made seven from 32 balls, added 36 for the fourth wicket before Lallbachand was run out. Myles, a fourteen-year-old South Rumveldt Secondary medium pacer, finished with 4-3 while Lasinna Toussaint took 4-9 and Smith 2-5.
The 16-year-old Campbell, who along with fellow Berbician Tracy Miller were a part of the West Indies training camp in Barbados as the regional team prepared for Women’s World Cup now being played in Australia, was outstanding behind the stumps and effected four stumpings.
The second of three trial matches will be played from 09:30hrs today at Everest and it is hoped that unlike yesterday when no physiotherapist was present in the event of injury to the teenagers, one will be at the venue today.
The Essequibo players arrived late yesterday and the out-of-town players had to walk from the DCC ground in Queenstown to the Guyana Cricket Board Hostel in Alberttown with their gear bags and traveling luggage after the game since no transpiration was sent for the young ladies.
