M&CC to discuss compensation for damage to woman’s property
More than three weeks after a huge palm tree planted on the M&CC reserves crashed onto the roof of her North East La Penitence home, destroying thousands of dollars in household articles and killing her pet parrot, Rita DaSilva has been assured that her matter is receiving expeditious attention.
This assurance came from Deputy Mayor, Robert Williams, who met with DaSilva at his East La Penitence residence, yesterday morning. Williams said that he was surprised that an amicable settlement has not yet been reached in the matter.

He has since invited the distraught woman to his office this morning for discussions pertaining to the resolution of the matter.
DaSilva’s suffering started on February 17 last after a huge palm tree planted on the M&CC reserves crashed onto her roof destroying her household appliances. Shortly after the mishap Mr. Robert Williams visited her home and promised to launch an immediate investigation into the matter.
Despite such assurances, the woman returned to this newspaper to complain that nothing has been done to ameliorate the situation. She said that she had visited City Hall only to receive the royal run around.
M&CC Public Relations Officer, Royston King, had subsequently telephoned to assure DaSilva that the matter would have been addressed at a statutory meeting scheduled for today.
However, Williams said that there is no need to address the matter at that level since the situation can be addressed at another forum, thus his reason for inviting DaSilva to the meeting this morning.
DaSilva is happy that the matter will finally be addressed and has expressed gratitude to this newspaper for the intervention.
