Central Rupununi recorded an emphatic 6-0 victory over South Central Rupununi in the final of the Rupununi Football Association Inter Sub-Association Under-15 Mashramani tournament played at the St Ignatius ground recently.

Mark Joseph fired in a hat-trick in the 15th, 34th and 48th minutes, while Franklin Parks with a double (67, 69) and Marson Regis (55) completed the tally as their team mark a first lien on the trophy. They received a replica of the Lien trophy and medals, while their opponent also collected a trophy and medals.
In the earlier matches, Central edged East Central 2-1 with Kennedy Torquarto (40) and Michael McDonald (49) scoring for the winners, while Jason Marks had opened the scoring for East Central.
South Central then overcame East Central by a 3-0 margin in the next game. Fredson John netted the hat-trick for the winners in the 32nd, 66th and 65th minutes.
At the presentation following the final, mark Joseph was named MVP and received football boots, best goalie was the diminutive Tim Wenceslaus of East Central and collected goalkeeping gloves.
The youngest player, 12-year-old Kenrick Ramsarran of East Central claimed a FIFA medallion and cell phone for his attacking mode of play. South Central was also named the most disciplined team.
The prizes were donated by Carlton Beckles, Guy Braz Bus Service, Fareeza Torres Enterprise, Waykas Store (Ann Ramsarran) and IPED.
The tournament marked the return of structured Under-15 competition to Rupununi after an absence of several years.
Interim president Theodore Fariah, who took over the running of the RFA following the death of Harold D’Aguiar, has been making a concerted effort to boost the administration of the game in the area.
Despite a lack of funding, Fariah was able to solicit in the vicinity of $36,000 from members of the community and was able to stage a smoothly run tournament, which evoked commendation from members of the community who turned out in numbers to witness the youths in action.
Efforts are currently in train to set up a proper club structure and accountability in the RFA as Fariah lead his team to produce a better run football programme in the area.
