Yesterday many cricket fans converged on the ticketing centre at the Guyana Cricket Board Office on Regent Street to purchase tickets for the first two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) of the Digicel home series against England at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, Guyana on March 20-& 22.
Tickets went on sale in Guyana on January 22 and since then the sale of tickets have increased steadily as the West Indies move closer to their first Test series win against England since their 3-1 triumphant in 1998.
With all tickets already sold out for the second ODI on Sunday March 20, the GCB yesterday informed that only a few tickets for the Orange ($3,500) and Red Stands ($4,500) are available for the first ODI on Friday, March 20.
The ticket centre is open from 09:00hrs to 16:00hrs on weekdays and will be opened today from 09:00hrs to 14:00hrs.
Tickets sales so far for both matches indicate that, unlike venues like Antigua and Barbados, local fans will easily outnumber the English supporters in Guyana at a venue with a capacity of just under15,000.
From all indications a rollicking day of fun frolic and riveting cricket is anticipated as West Indies fans in traditional manner turn out in Carnival-like Caribbean style which was sadly missing from the last World Cup two years ago.
Marketing Manager of the GCB Ramsay Ali informed that the true West Indian flavour will be present at the games in Guyana since people selling Plantain Chips, Nuts, Snow cones and other such vendors will be allowed to sell in the stands at Providence.
