Warren ‘Forty’ Mc Kay of Continental Cycle Club once again rode a commanding race to win the feature 35 lap event at the 18th annual R&R International sponsored 11-race cycle programme held yesterday at the National Park.
Mc Kay, just off victory in the Cheddi Jagan Memorial in Berbice last Sunday, maintained his winning momentum by clocking a time of one hour 21 minutes 45 seconds and in the process he defeated last years winner Christopher Holder (1′ 25mins 14.27secs) who had to settle for 3rd behind fellow junior, Geron Williams.
Lear Nunes, Darren Allen and Enzo Matthews closed out the top six.
Mc Kay was so dominant in the race that he pocketed all 8 prime prizes a feat that has not been achieved in a long time.
The winner, Holder and Williams led the race from about lap 13 before Mc Kay stepped up the pace leaving both Holder and Williams behind.
Holder, in repeating as winner of the junior race (24mins 14.28secs) also lowered last years mark of 26mins 25.32secs.
Canadian based Wilbert Benjamin took top spot in the veteran under-50 clash ahead of Junior Niles and Kennard Lovell in that order. The over-50 division went to Anthony Fariah who was followed by Maurice Fagundes and Aubrey Gravesande. Fariah also won a special trophy donated by Woodpecker Trophy Products for the first over-60 finisher.
