Michael Baksh, 25, was on Monday slapped with an additional charge of attempted murder when he appeared before Magistrate Allen Wilson.
Baksh is accused of attempting to murder Sylvan Joseph, 19, on January 19 at Aranaputa Valley. He was not required to plead.
He was remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance on June 3. Baksh was earlier charged for the murder of Orilly Lally on January 22. Lally was killed in the North Rupununi at about 21:00 hrs on January 19 after he received a chop which almost severed his neck.
A police press release had stated that Lally and four other men were consuming alcohol when an argument developed between him and the accused.
The argument later developed into an altercation, during which it is alleged that Lally was chopped to his neck with a cutlass and subsequently died.
Baksh turned himself in at Annai shortly after the crime was committed.
