Assistant Coach of Sunburst Camptown, Sampson Gilbert will be attending a CONCACAF coaching course from March 10 – 15 in the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
And one of the entities facilitating Gilbert’s educational quest is Continental Foods Inc. one of the companies within the Continental Group of Companies, under their Sunburst Brand.
Yesterday, Company Secretary Percival Boyce Jr. handed over a cheque to Gilbert who is expected to leave Guyana on Monday for Trinidad.
Boyce said the company was very pleased to support Gilbert in his bid to strengthen his knowledge as a coach. Boyce disclosed that Managing Director of the Company Mr. Rakesh Puri was very happy to assist in making Gilbert’s attendance at the course possible.
“Our company continues to be in support of the efforts and maintenance of the Sunburst Camptown Football Club. We are basically satisfied with the performance of what we consider, a young club but we feel that they could be doing much better and it is for this reason that we will continue to be in their corner to give them the necessary support to reach the heights which we think they can attain.”
Coach Gilbert in response said he was very grateful for the support by Continental Group of Companies, not just to him personally but to the club generally. He complimented the general attitude of the company in lending continuous support and having the vision to see the club rise to prominence form one stage to another.
“I would be working assiduously to increase to my level of education in and about the sport in general so I can be instrumental in imparting the necessary skills and information to the players in the club especially the younger players.”
The coach also noted that he would love to use football as an institution to develop young players’ all-round ability in life.
The CONCACAF course will be focusing particularly on tactics and Gilbert believes it is timely since football the world over has become more tactical.
“With the vision of the Continental Group of Companies it is very good that we can be able to access this level of coaching education so that we can better develop our club to compete not only nationally but even regionally and internationally.”
