The matches just get better as the tournament progresses and the double header that pits Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United against GFC, while Western Tigers come up against Camptown will be the icing on the cake as the four teams battle for quarter-finals places in the Mayor’s Cup football extravaganza at the Georgetown Football Club Ground this evening.
‘The Hammer,’ has already made their presence felt after defeating BV/triumph and will look to continue in this vein. Their line up consists of assistant coach, Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard, Kevin McKenzie and Howard Lowe (defence), national striker, Dwight Peters, Quincy Madramootoo, playing midfield and national midfielder, Shawn ‘Fatso’ Bishop.
Then there is Leon Grumble playing midfield and Ronson Williams between the uprights as ‘The hammer’ fancies their chances of moving into the semi-final stages of the competition.
GFC will bank their chances on striker Rodwell Wellington and their defenders Roy Stanton and Gregory Denny.
The other match between Western Tigers and Camptown is expected to be another scorcher. The ‘Tigers’ will depend heavily on striker, Devon Millington, the leading goal scorer in the tournament. He will obviously nurture hopes of increasing his tally.
The dapper player is in ripping form, having netted 5 times against Uitvlugt FC. He can also expect staunch support from Sherman David in the mid back position.
Camptown will not be daunted by the strong line up of ‘The Tigers.’ Much weight will be placed on the boot of striker, Richie Richardson as well as national defence player Devon Dummett.
Other players expected to lead the Camptown charge are defender, Orlando Gilgeous and midfielder Troy Prescod. The ever-improving ‘keeper’ Maurice Prince is also expected to lend firm support.
The excitement continues on Sunday with Conquerors up against the GDF and Buxton out to avenge their loss last year against Pele. Kick off time is 18:00hrs sharp.
