NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE – Advice is to be sought on the way forward in the matter involving the alleged rape of a 13-year old female of Stanleytown in New Amsterdam.
According to police reports, detectives are making the necessary arrangements to secure a document from the hospital on the medical condition of the 18-year-old suspect, who is said to be a cancer victim.
So far the police have taken statements from all parties concerned. They are also trying to get a medical certificate from the hospital for the 13-year-old girl, who was already examined by a medical practitioner.
The teenager went missing on Thursday last about 15:30 hours after she was sent on an errand. The matter was reported to police. She subsequently appeared home some time between midnight and 01:30 hours on Saturday.
According to police reports, the lad was arrested based on the information given to them by the 13-year-old girl. She told police that she was with the boy during the period she went missing and that they had sexual intercourse.
On Saturday 18-year-old Paul Remington of Lot 40 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, was picked up by police after accusing him of raping the 13-year-old girl from the said community.
He was released on $20,000 station bail, on Sunday, based on his medical condition and the following day admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he remains a patient.
According to the boy’s mother, Pearl Ann Remington, he is suffering from cancer in the rectum, a condition that was diagnosed ten years ago.
The woman wants justice for her son since she is certain that he is not capable of such an act due to his medical condition. She claims that the lad reportedly bleeds daily and must wear a disposable diaper.
She is also seeking legal advice on the matter. The woman had also complained that her son was beaten both while being arrested and during his detention.
She has since met with the Commander of Division ‘B’ of the Guyana Police Force, Assistant Commissioner George Alexander Vyphuis. “He collect statements from me and say that he would investigate the matter.”
Yesterday, the mother of the 13-year-old girl said that she was not aware of what transpired between the police ranks and her daughter in terms of her admitted to having sexual intercourse or her whereabouts. “Maybe when they ask she that, she tell them that. I must be went outside. The police tell me to carry she birth certificate.”
When questioned of her daughter’s other condition the woman replied, “She ain’t need doctor – I carry she to three or four different doctors and the doctor say they can’t help she – they can’t do nothing for she. They do blood test and all of that and nothing help. Them doctors say she ain’t need doctor – she need prayers.”
The woman said that she took the advice and sought Divine intervention. “I carry she to four Pastors on the Corentyne, and that seem to be helping. After I carry she to the last one she stop trying to kill she self and so.”
