Forty-four-year-old Derrick Franklin of Lot 41, Blairmont, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, and a miner in the interior, was yesterday placed in front of Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton to answer a charge of robbery under arms.
It is alleged that on February 6, 2009 at Stabroek Market, Georgetown, being armed with an offensive weapon, a knife, he robbed Gordon Weekes of one gold chain value $60,000, $10,000 cash, and other items value some $85,000.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Police Prosecutor Robert Clement in his statements yesterday morning said that he had no objection to bail.
The magistrate subsequently placed the defendant on $200,000 bail and ordered that he be back in court on May 27, 2009.
