Dear Editor,
The village of Leonora on the West Coast Demerara seems to be having regular blackouts at nights.
Our main police station happens to be caught up in this situation. It has been observed for a long time now that police ranks have to resort to kerosene lamps. This is an unacceptable situation.
It doesn’t display a proper image of the Police Force. We are in the 21st century where automatic generators, uninterrupted power supply and automatic inverters are readily available.
It is utterly disgusting to see this security institution which our safety depends on resorting to kerosene lamps. Then on the other hand the lives of the ranks on duty are at risk. I am asking the Commissioner of Police and the Minister of Home Affairs to look into this situation urgently.
Resident of Leonora
