Dear Editor,
I am sure that the money that CLICO Guyana allegedly invested in The Bahamas (some $8B or $9B) would be found eventually.
President Jagdeo has been in contact with the Prime Minister of The Bahamas to find this money. Guyanese taxpayers are losing $8B a year (as opposed to this one-off missing money) because Guyana Power and Light (GPL) is being mismanaged, yet many people who are calling the loss of $9B “a scandal” are not prepared to call the loss of over $40B (over five years) of taxpayers’ monies “a scandal”.
Why is GPL being allowed to get away with losing Guyanese taxpayers money?
Unless President Jagdeo places GPL into administration and seek to recover the cost then International Finance Institutions may with-hold loans.
It is the message that they are trying to convey (through CLICO Guyana losingG$9B) that is also important.
Imagine Linden customers of GPL are getting over $350,000 a year in subsidies while poor farmers have to work very hard and may never see $300,000 per year.
