After the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) dismantled his stall in Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara about a week ago, Mohamed Jamat, popularly known as ‘Billy Goat’, decided to do his only means of business on a mobile cart at the very spot.
However, this now seems to have irritated the NDC who has since warned the man that the cart is too big and he should remove it or have it dismantled.
According to Jamat, when his stall was dismantled he had to find somewhere and something to maintain himself and his family, so he decided to invest in a donkey which would pull the cart to the road early in the day and back it in at nights.
Jamat said that he is a heart patient and he depends on vending to sustain his family.
For the past 15 years the man has been operating his snackette.
Jamat had said that a few years ago, he was told by the authorities that he needed to move his stall from the roadway since it was affecting the free flow of traffic. He said that he complied.
About one month ago he was informed by the Region Three authorities that he needed to remove his snackette completely from the government’s reserve.
The man said that while he is not against the authorities doing their job, he urged for them to do it the correct way, by also removing other persons in the area, who are also on the reserve.
He is calling on the authorities to look into the situation with some urgency since his life depends on it.
