‘Obama youths’ assist Habitat home partner

It was a fulfilling experience last Saturday when the youths of the Obama Youth Organisation offered their time and energies towards the construction of a home for a Habitat for Humanity Inc. home partner.
The youths were involved in voluntary work, including constructing the internal walls, painting, laying of blocks and other related work at the building located at Grove, East Bank Demerara.
The effort of the group has enabled one or more home partner to come closer to realising the dream of having his or her own home. Over the years Habitat has gotten similar support from a number of individuals and organisations. Among some of the organisations that have been supporting the work of the humanitarian entity are MoneyGram and branches of the Scotiabank.
And so in the same mode of support the Obama Youth Organisation, previously called the ‘Young Thoughtful Youth Programme’, which came into existence in February 2000, has joined the Habitat for Humanity’s group of supporters.
The youth organization, which has as its motto ‘Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders,’ had adopted its new name to celebrate the Presidency of Barack Obama.
President Obama is seen as an inspiration to the youths, having demonstrated that anyone can aspire to the highest levels.
The goal of the organisation is to create an environment in which young people will be encouraged to develop their full mental, spiritual and physical potential, through opportunities which enable them to become responsible and productive citizens.
