US-based Guyanese believed to have fled to Guyana

Rohan Ganesh, a 19-year-old United States-based Guyanese man, from Schenectady, New York, who had been charged with violently shaking his infant son last year, may have fled back to his home in Guyana.
According to the New York police, in May last year, Ganesh picked up his four-month-old son, who was crying, and shook him so violently that the child suffered serious brain injury. Last August Ganesh was charged with reckless assault of a child and first-degree assault.
He was also charged with child endangerment.
It was reported that the child is now in the care of his mother’s relatives, and it looks as if he will recover.
On Monday last, Ganesh’s parents were charged with lying to police about how the child was injured.
The accused is said to have lodged his passport, which was expired, on a condition of bail after his arrest in August, last year. Sources at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport have said that if Ganesh entered Guyana, he may be travelling under a false name.
The attorney who represented Ganesh’s parents, Stephen Rockmacher, said that Ganesh vanished just after he was accused in New York in December, 2008, for violating an order of protection to stay away from Melessa Narine, the mother of his three children.
It was said by the couple’s attorney that Ganesh’s parents first told the police that their grandchild was injured after falling off the bed.

After this report had been made, they further said that Ganesh’s older brother, who is severely mentally retarded, hurt the child.(timesunion.com)
