As RSSC reach T&T 20/20 cricket finals

Transport Sports Club’s and Demerara all-rounder Travis Blyden and his countryman GNIC’s Elton Baker continued their impressive debut season in the Trinidad and Tobago National 20/20 cricket tournament by ensuring their team; Rousillac United Sports Club (RUSC) advanced to the final of the competition.

The right-handed Blyden picked up 4-22 from four overs of controlled leg-spin before retuning to make a valuable 10 towards the end to claim the Man-of-the-Match award, while Baker lashed a scintillating unbeaten 54 as RUSC reached 112-7 in 19.2 overs replying to the109 in 19.2 overs made by Standard Sports Club.

Kerry Harris (2-26) supported Blyden with the ball while Wilfred Cooper, who hit an audacious 28, batted well in a half-century partnership with Baker as their team marched into the final which is scheduled for Sunday.

Sunday’s winner will received TT$10,000 (G$300,000) while the runner up takes home TT$5,000.

On the previous weekend, with eight required to win from the final over bowled by Baker, Savviges Cricket Club could only must three, giving RSSC a four-run victory and a place in the semi-finals.

RUSC batted first and made 120 all out in 16 overs with Harish Singh top scoring with 48. Baker made 18 while Blyden, the other Guyana in the side, only made two but returned to capture 4-13 from his four overs as Savviges CC reached 115-8 when their 20 overs expired.

Baker finished with 2-22 from three overs as his adopted club continued their good run in this year’s Trinidad cricket season. (Sean Devers)
