Eighteen-year-old medium pacer Naresh Boodhoo snatched 5-37 in a winning effort for Zeelugt as the 2008 A. Khan Lumber Yard 40-overs under-19 cricket for teams in West Coast Demerara continued with one match at Zeeburg last Saturday.
Boodhoo’s five-wicket haul and attractive batting from Vikash Ramjattan and Khanhiya Ramkarran ensured Zeelugt trashed Zeeburg by 10 wickets in their own backyard although the home team boasted Demerara under-19 right-hander Balbinder Shivpersaud and Demerara under-17 player Medhan Dhanpaul in the line-up.
Zeeburg fell for 106 in 24.3 overs with the usually pugnacious Shivpersaud lofting two sixes in his 27. Ronald Kelawana (12) and Dhanpaul (11) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as the impressive Boodhoo and got back-up from Tavindra Mangra (2-29) and Khanhiya Ramkarran (2-5).
Zeelugt reached 108 without loss in 23.3 overs with Vikash Ramjattan, who struck a four and two sixes in his unbeaten 38 and Khanhiya Ramkarran, whose undefeated 42 was decorated with three fours and two sixes, seeing their team to an emphatic victory.
