– three held, getaway car impounded
Police have detained three suspects in connection with a robbery on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, in which a gang of men with cutlasses and knives attacked a Geddes Grant delivery truck at around 13:00 hrs on Thursday.
According to reports, the driver and porter were returning from Linden when the porter asked the driver to stop on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway so he could urinate.
Kaieteur News understands that shortly after the truck stopped a car with a group of men drove up to the vehicle.
The men, who were armed with cutlasses and knives, exited the car and attacked the Geddes Grant employees, who were forced to hand over about $700,000.
The bandits then escaped in their vehicle.
However, police sources said that the driver of the getaway car was detained shortly after, while two other suspects were arrested on Saturday.
They are likely to appear in court today.
The car was also impounded, but police said that none of the stolen cash was recovered.
