According to bystanders, the police rider, who was proceeding south along Smyth Street, failed to stop at the major road and collided with the motorcar that was heading east on Princes Street.
The motorcar almost ended up in a ditch along Princes Street.
The policeman was hurled some distance away. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) by police ranks who gathered at the scene soon after the accident took place.
While the motorcar driver did not sustain injuries, the front of his car sustained some damage. It was also reported that the driver of the car was talking on his mobile phone when the accident occurred.
