Dear Editor,
I saw it but couldn’t believe it, the Region Six Regional Democratic Council mashing in Georgetown.
What a shame and disgrace to Berbicians.
They should have stayed home instead of going all the way to Georgetown to make Berbicians look like a fools. What happened to all the money they budgeted for Mash 2009 that they couldn’t even make a costume float?
Berbicians have so much talent and so many designers and artists and yet nobody could have made a float; it’s unbelievable.
“Hats off” to the contingent and Regional Chairman Mr. Harrinarine Baldeo of Region Five, who displayed a beautiful float.
When I saw what they (Region Five) had to showcase, I was ashamed to see that Region Six, which is such a huge place, could not even make a float.
What an embarrassment to the people of Berbice. Imagine, of the many thousands of people living in Berbice, there were not more than 20 persons on the road mashing for Region Six last Monday, and more so suspicious was that the majority of ‘trampers’ representing Region Six last Monday in Georgetown were the staff of NCN Channel 15.
The banner should not have read Region Six RDC, but instead ‘The staff of NCN’ because it seems only they made up the Region Six contingent that day.
They were the worst of all the floats and persons mashing; they were like a pack of stragglers or should I say “kangalas” in Creolese dialect.
My friends and I were so ashamed we couldn’t let the Georgetowners know that we were Berbicians because they would have laughed us to scorn I’m sure the few persons from Berbice that were there must have felt the same way. It was a downright shame and embarrassment.
This weekend is Berbice’s Mash and I can’t help wondering what it would be like because if that was anything worthwhile to watch them display in Georgetown, then what about here? I’m left to wonder. Yet another day of shame and disgrace for Berbice.
The footage on DTV’s News showing the sparse and few East Berbice/NCN contingents was most appalling for want of a better word. I am calling on the Mash Committee in Georgetown to investigate that display of travesty and mockery last weekend to all Berbicians and Guyana as a whole.
