When rivalry continued yesterday in the Milo sponsored Georgetown Football Association (GFA) under-21 league / knock-out competition, Black Pearl got the better of Uprising 3-1 at the Camptown ground and over at the Tucville ground, Riddim Squad and Pele battled to a nil all draw.
Flamingo pocketed full points as a result of the non appearance of Beacon at Camptown, while Alpha were also awarded full points as Thomas United failed to show up at the Tucville ground. Black Pearl were led to victory through efforts from Delroy Thomas in the 33rd minute, Trevor Fraser in the 56th and Kevon Barry in the 67th. Uprising’s consolation came off the boot of Marco Marcus three minutes into the second half.
And in direct reaction to the multiplicity of walkovers with Beacon and Thomas, the culpable teams, the GFA has taken a decision to axe both teams from the tournament.
Beacon has been affected by a mass exodus of players who left with Coach Gordon ‘Ultimate Warrior’ Braithwaite for Uprising, recently.
Play will continue on Tuesday with two more matches. Fruta Conquerors and Uprising face off at the Tucville ground and over at the Camptown ground, the Guyana Defence Force battle Sunburst Camptown. Both matches kick off at 16:15hrs.
