Five teams have advanced to the second round of the Accounting Business Service (ABS) 40 overs first division cricket tournament following wins during the opening round of matches.
Young Warriors arrested Skeldon at the Cumberland ground. Taking to the crease first after winning the toss, Young Warriors lost 9 wickets in posting 188 off their allotted overs. Seon Hetmyer was unbeaten 10 runs short of what would have been a well deserved century, Ishwar Singh supported well with 46.
Junior Reid with 2-27 and Deon Daymard 2-45 were the leading wicket takers for Police who were sent packing for 116 in 31.4 overs. Neil Trotz 28 and Clive Pestano 26 were the top scorers, while doing the damage with the ball for Young Warriors were C. Singh 4-25 and Anil Beharry 2-27.
At Port Mourant the home team crushed Blairmont by nine wickets. Scores; Blairmont 92 all out in 30 overs, D. Ramkissoon and D. Prashad made 16 each.
Yogindra Harrinarine took 4 wickets for Port Mourant who raced to 95-1 off 14.3 overs, Davendra Thakurdeen slammed an undefeated 60 which contained 6 boundaries. Moshin Perkhan backed up with23.
At the Area “H” ground, Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar gained a walkover from Kildonan who were unable to field due to the players work commitments.
At Scotsburg the home team defeated Rose Hall Canje by 48 runs. Scotsburg made 196-8 off their allotted overs, Peter Grimes 58, Clarence Beresford 40 and Alex Amsterdam 32 were the principal scorers.
Romesh Munna took 3-47 and Kevin Ramdeen 2-17 for Canje who were bowled out for 148 in 28.1 overs. Vedesh Singh top scored with 60 while the main wicket takers were Peters Grimes 3-8 and Robert Moore 3-34.
Over at Albion, the home team cruised past West Berbice by 5 wickets. West Berbice batting first were restricted to 145-9 off their 40 overs, Leroy Bristol contributed 38 and Rawle Ogle 20. Wicket takers for Albion were Ramnarine Chattergoon 2-15 and Doodnauth Lallbeharry 2-18.
In response, Albion needed 35 overs to achieve victory, national under-19 player Jonathan Foo led the way with 45 and Chattergoon returned with the bat to hit 43 to seal victory. Krisendat Ramoo and Holsarran Lalsa had two wickets each for the losers.
The Bermine / Police encounter was postponed due to the Police’ involvement in 2009 Mashramani celebrations.
