Ever since Mashramani has come and gone with all the excitement, glitz and glamour, the beautiful costumes, floats, and ‘props’ are still evident in and around the city. Most are on the parapets along the roadway leading from the National Park.
The Environment Community Health Organisation (ECHO) has said that it is very concerned about the manner in which those responsible have ‘left costumes and other pieces around to the mercies of anyone’.
Floats have been left in the National Park and at other places. To make matters worse, according to ECHO, many of the costume and float materials are ‘non-biodegradable’.
These of course are very harmful to both animals and to the environment.
The organisation is calling on all designers to look at ways in which they can design ‘eco-friendly costumes’.
