Nuff hit the fan because all of a sudden people start fuh collect dem money wha dem did saving wid Clico. Of course Clico offer big money and dem boys decide to tek de plunge because de banks only paying one per cent per annum. Clico paying nearly seven per cent suh a man wid a few dollars know that he had something to collect.
One man put in he money but he was cautious. He know how dem things does go. He only invest fuh a year because he know wha it is to tek out an insurance policy fuh twenty years and was a powerful policy. De money was nuff. Five years into the policy de money didn’t mean nutten and he claim how he lose because if he did spend he money he would get much more than de money can even buy now. Plus de insurance company always deciding to keep back something when a man want to pull out.
Well was nuff people who go to save in Clico. Robert of agriculture sell he house just to get a small piece to save in Clico. He decide that if he save de money then when it mature he can buy another house and still get a small piece.
But dem boys shoulda smell de rat because de same Clico that was tekking dem money and promising big interest was busy selling off de very money it invest. Less than a month ago, Clico had nuff money that it invest in de Berbice Bridge fuh nearly 12 per cent per annum interest.
Which man ain’t gun put he money in something that paying 12 per cent instead of government bonds that paying three per cent? That is wha Clico did and it woulda mek money because it was only going to pay six per cent to de person who money it was using.
Well pressure mek Clico run and lef de money. It hustle and sell out al de money it had in de Bridge because dem had some people who was demanding dem money. All dem people who had policy demand dem money. Clico watch de profit disappear. It didn’t see that de whole company woulda disappear.
If you see people who get headache when dem wake up Thursday morning and see in de paper that another Clico collapse, this time in de Bahamas. To mek matters worse, dem see that Clico Guyana invest plenty money in Clico Bahamas and right away dem holler how dem ruin.
One man who wukking wid a new newspaper think he smart. He borrow money from NIS and invest some in de Berbice Bridge then he invest de lion’s share wid Clico. NIS calling back fuh dem money because dem lose money wid Clico and people demanding dem pension.
Dem boys seh that it don’t rain till it pour. Just as dem reading bout Clico and all dem collapse, up comes Freddie wid news that Canada dumping Guyana as its partner. If you see Guyanese who start fuh cry because nuff of dem got relatives in Canada and right away dem see de li’l freck disappearing.
Some of dem who expecting visa done see dem hopes falling by de wayside. Is not till dem read de article that Freddie quote from that dem realize that Freddie can’t read. De man read some article in de Toronto Sun and conclude that it mean something other than what it mean.
De Canadians read Freddie article and cuss. Then dem call de paper and state dem objection because only de other day dem send a big Minister to Guyana to discuss de issue and de man talk bout aid to Guyana.
Dem boys seh that if what Freddie write is true then de Canadians talking from both sides of dem mouth.
When de boss man try to talk to Freddie was trouble because is one thing to try to talk to Freddie. Is another to do de talking because de man don’t listen.
Anyhow. De situation is not serious though because de Canadians claim how dem had dealings wid Freddie before.
Talk half. Lef half.
