Play in the Annual National Sports Commission Mashramani Table Tennis Tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall continued on Sunday.
Four categories were contested; the “C” Class Open, “B” Class Open, Men’s Doubles and the Women’s Doubles.
The “C: Class Open reached its semi-finals stage, which line-ups will be decided when Berbice player Gibran Hussein meets Dwayne Gibson and Anthony Niles comes up against Jody-Ann Blake in the quarter-finals.
Hussein defeated Joel Alleyne at 17-15,9-11,11-7,13-11 (3-1); Gibson defeated Oliver Jandoo (Berbice) at 11-7,11-3,13-11 (3-0); Niles defeated Hackshaw at 11-8,11-7,11-9 (3-0) and Blake defeated Denzel Hopkinson at 11-7,5-11,11-7,11-9 (3-1).
The “B” Class Open reached to the last sixteen where four players drew byes and secured places in the quarter-finals.
The four are Trenace Lowe, Jody-Ann Blake, Nigel Bryan and Joel Alleyne, while Dwayne Gibson will face off with Orin Hinkenson, Hewley Griffith will come up against Xen Goliah, Oliver Jandoo (Berbice) will meet Anthony Niles and another Berbician Gibran Hussein will be in opposition to Marlon Washington (Linden) to advance.
Men’s Doubles reached the semi-finals which will be contested today starting from 17:00 hours. The pair of Christopher Franklin/Donald Duff will meet Joel Alleyne/ Darwin Walcott in semi-final one, while tomorrow in semi-final two, Matthew Khan/Orin Hickerson will oppose Paul Meusa/ Dillon Caesar.
In the quarter-finals: Franklin/Duff defeated Dwayne Gibson/Samuel Fraser at 11-2, 2-11, 11-9, and 11-8. (3-1)); Alleyne/Walcott gained a walk over from Nigel Bryan/Denzel Hopkinson; Meusa/Caesar defeated Randy Pompey/Hewley Griffith at 11-5,10-12,8-11,11-3,11-9 (3-2); Khan/Hickerson beat Bank of Guyana pair of Imran Khan/Cartyle Bowman at 11-9,11-9,1109 (3-0).
Women’s doubles the pair of Trenace Lowe/ Adeille Rosheuvel will oppose Natalie Cummings/ Ambrose Thomas in the final, while Jody-Ann Blake/Chelsea Edghill were unsuccessful to get past Thomas /Cummings in the semi-final and settled for third place.
The men’s and women’s doubles will continue during the coming week and on Sunday March 1 the “C” Class open semi-finals, “B” Class Open and the Senior Mixed Doubles will continue at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall starting from 10:00 hours.
However, two hours later the Men’s and Women’s singles will commence at the same venue.
The presentation of prizes will be held on Wednesday March 4 starting from 16:00 hours at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
