Dear Editor,
Decisions by companies not participating during Mash 2009 celebrations must be accepted with the understanding that spending power is not at its best from the public at large.
I really feel that those companies are on temporary hold awaiting the end of the first or second quarter of the year before they continue with discussions of sponsorships, or participation of any kind for future events. The tone of the parade celebrations was what I expected and these were not bad at all.
The National Steel Orchestra was very impressive, so were revellers, while there were some very interesting floats. I also hope that the Joint Services will continue with their presence during future celebrations.
Missing in action were many, and I feel that come 2010 we might witness a much more supported float parade from the private sector, and I guess that it all depends on the financial climate at that particular period.
The Joint Services might need to consider a proposal and collaborate with either Digicel or Carib Beer Company, for either will be an ideal one, and both companies could be well represented taking that route. Apart from the Easter and Emancipation holidays later in the year, I hope GUYEXPO 2009 will be on, and maybe we might witness a much more business-supported event which many of us do support.
Given the circumstances businesses are facing at the moment, the organisers of the event might seriously need to review the cost of space rentals across the board for every category of display of products, and this could definitely see a boost of participation, which is what might be needed for the event to be a major success. Refusing to do so, it is my gut feeling that companies might very well choose to stay away this round, which is what we don’t need to happen.
