Just hours after a story chiding the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) for withholding information on the names of their new sub-committee members appeared in yesterday’s issue of the Kaieteur News, acting GCB President Bissoon Singh made the unprecedented move of issuing an official GCB media release on a National Holiday.
Singh provided the media with copies of the newly elected committees yesterday during the final day of the WICB four-day regional cricket match.
It is revealed by a reliable source that many of the GCB members felt that the release should have been made earlier but the President Chetram Singh (who is now overseas) declined to make the information public before Bissoon Singh’s surprise, but welcomed decision yesterday.
Although the GCB is yet to make a release on the switching of Guyana’s ninth round regional four-day match against the Combined Colleges and Campuses (CCC) from March 6-9 from Albion, Kaieteur Sports has been informed that the game will now be played at Bourda due to the unavailability of the Berbice venue.
The 10th round game against the Leeward Island from March 13-16 will now be played at Albion.
Bissoon Singh informed that while all of the sub-committees have been named and are ready to go into action to move Guyana’s cricket forward, the Cricket committee, to be headed by Claude Raphael, will be confirmed as soon as all of those selected confirm their willingness to serve in the position. An impressive list of names of former regional and local players form the Cricket committee, which also include Lennox Hunte and present Chairman of the Guyana youth selection panel Michael Franco Hyles.
The full cricket committee read:-Raphael (Chairman), Roger Harper, Neil Barry, Colin Stuart, Reon King, Ivor Mendonca, Clyde Butts, Lennox Hunte and Michael Hyles.
The Cricket Development Committee will be headed by Bissoon Singh while the other members are; Ron Legall, Dr Winston McGowan, Stan Cooke (who will represent the Guyana Blind Cricket Association), Emily Dodson, Claude Raphael, of representative of the Guyana Cricket Umpires Council and the Chairman of the Cricket Development Committees of the country boards.
Raphael heads the National senior selection panel, which also comprise Rabindranauth Seeram and Hubern Evans while the Junior Selection panel is headed by Michael Franco Hyles and include Fizul Bacchus and Sheik Mohamed.
Carl Moore is the Chairman of the Competitions Committee with Colin Europe, a representative from the GCUC and each county board being the other members.
The Marketing and fund-raising committee is headed by Ramsay Ali while Tarchan Balgobin, Raj Singh, Terry Holder, Les Ramalho, Paul Bonar and Naim Chan are the other members.
The Discipline committee is headed by K Juman-Yassin and include Holder and Lance Baptist while the Reports Committee is headed by Bacchus with Holder and Baptise as the members.
Sheik Ahmad heads the Finance committee with the other members being Anand Sanasie, Pritipaul Jaigobin, Ramsay Ali, Chetram Singh and Savitrie Persaud.
A representative from the GCUC along with Chetram Singh and Carl Moore will sit on the committee to deal with Umpiring issues.
