A Justice of the Peace and a 28-year-old woman are in police custody following allegations that they sexually abused a 13-year-old girl.
Ranks from the Grove Police Station swooped down on the JP’s East Bank Demerara home at around 13:00 hrs on Wednesday, after being tipped off about the girl’s presence at the man’s residence.
The JP, said to be in his fifties, and his alleged 28-year-old accomplice, were taken into custody after the girl was found there.
She was returned to her mother’s home after giving a statement to investigators.
Kaieteur News understands that the alleged victim underwent a medical examination which confirmed that she was sexually active.
According to police sources, the teen has alleged that the JP and the woman sexually abused her after giving her alcohol.
The alleged victim is from a single-parent home with seven children.
Persons who live near to the family said that the teen seldom attends school and can be regularly seen soliciting money from men.
In an interview with Kaieteur News yesterday, the teen again claimed that the suspects gave her “beer and vodka” to drink. However, she said that only the woman molested her.
The girl’s mother told Kaieteur News that her daughter met the JP several months ago while begging in the streets.
She claimed that the suspect “treated her like a daughter” and enrolled her in a private school.
The girl said that she began to visit the man’s home.
However, the mother said that she began to have reservations about the friendship and told her daughter to stop visiting the man’s residence.
She said that the teen ignored her admonitions and continued visiting the home.
According to residents who live near to the JP, the teen began visiting the man’s residence some time last year. They claimed that she, along with the other woman, eventually moved into the residence.
The residents claimed that they often observed the teen consuming alcohol with the two adults.
One woman claimed that the JP became abusive when she complained to him about the situation.
