Guyana face-off with Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) from 10:00hrs today at the Guyana National Stadium in the seventh round of the WICB regional four-day cricket tournament.
The Guyanese, who broke their four-match losing streak in their last game aim for an improved performance against the visitors who are in the fourth position on 33 points.
T&T will hope that Adrian Barath is fit to play today after being affected by a niggling hamstring injury.
Barath, has 407 runs from five matches this season with two fifties and a ton and is the only T&T batsman apart from Skipper Daren Ganga (349 from five games) with 300 runs this season.
Kieron Pollard, Lendl Simmons, Sherwin Ganga, Imran Khan and wicketkeeper Gibran Mohamed will also need to contribute for the visitors.
Ravi Rampaul will lead the pace attack while Amit Jaggernauth and Badree should provide the bulk of the spin.
Guyana will depend on Narsingh Deonarine, Skipper Travis Dowlin and Leon Johnson to carry the batting.
Deonarine’s 340 runs is the most by a Guyanese while Dowlin 330 runs with four fifties, has been Guyana’s most consistent batsman.
Johnson has failed to convert two fifties into three-figure scores while Royston Crandon has scored three half-centuries in the middle order before being sacrificed as an opener.
Although he has three ducks, Keeper Derwin Christian is the only Guyanese centurion this season
Shemroy Barrington has been dropped and Chris Barnwell could open with Christian while Steven Jacobs should play today.
Pacer Brandon Bess could also lose his place as leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo who has 19 wickets will spearhead the inexperienced bowling attack.
T&T beat Guyana by nine wickets last year despite centuries from Sarwan and Chattergoon as Brian Lara returned to first class cricket with a first innings ton and an electrifying second innings unbeaten 53 from 27 balls. Barath and Simmons also got second innings fifties
Hoomchand Pooran, Mohamed and Barrington were replaced in the Guyana squad from the last match by Assad Fudadin, Gajanand Singh and Trevon Garraway while T&T have added Simmons to their 13-man squad from their last round game against the Leewards.
Teams: (Guyana) Travis Dowlin (Captain), Leon Johnson (V/Capt), Chris Barnwell, Narsingh Deonarine, Royston Crandon, Steven Jacobs, Derwin Christian, Esuan Crandon, Davendra Bishoo, Brandon Bess, Gajanand Singh, Assad Fudadin, Trevon Garraway.
